Hi Serious Eaters! As a Jew I feel somewhat guilty that I cook so little specifically Jewish food. It's just that I grew up with the Manischevitz box version of a lot of foods and I don't really like those now; they all too salty and don't taste fresh. So far I've taught myself to make kashka varnishkes, grated potato latkes, and homemade applesauce. From Gil Marks' "Olive Trees and Honey" I've also learned a pretty complicated leek and greens sephardic pie. I made a red lentil soup that has some relation to the Jacob-Esau birthright story. Other than that, I've got nothing.
You don't have to be Jewish to make Jewish food--what's in your recipe box?
