Weekend Cook and Tell: Foods on a Stick

Welcome to Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we browse the food sections of various national newspapers in search of inspiration for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.

While searching for inspiration for this week's challenge I came across the L.A. Weekly's review of Matt Armendariz's On A Stick!, a cookbook devoted to all food served—you guessed it—on a stick. Some of you might recognize Armendariz from his blog, Matt Bites filled with his gorgeous food photos. His newly released cookbook is filled with all sorts of creative interpretations of skewerable foods including everything from corn dogs, deep fried mac 'n cheese, and spaghetti and meatballs to s'mores and Elvis-inspired bacon crusted chocolate covered bananas.

For this week's challenge we want to see what you can put on a stick. We're talking creative corn dogs, charred kebabs, saucy satays, and spiedini. If you're short on ideas head over to Wikipedia's Skewered Foods page where you'll find no less than 45 entries for international foods on a stick.
