So when it comes to drinking of the alcoholic persuasion, I'm pretty much a newbie in many respects. I've latched on to the high-end cocktail scene in this great city of ours, and I've been exploring the deliciousness that is a well-prepared cocktail. I also have a bunch of friends that are serious beer geeks, so I've been to quite a few beer-centric bars, and even though I haven't yet acquired the taste for it, I'm still working on it.
I guess the area that I'm lacking in most is wine. I enjoy a glass every now and then with dinner, and if offered some, I'll gladly imbibe. But wine bars? They sort of terrify me. The exceedingly long lists, the obscure names, etc. I'm not well versed enough in the wine universe to know what I like, and therefore, to know with confidence what I'd want to order by the bottle.
What are some beginner wine bars that you'd recommend for a wine newbie? Requirements would be that it's not too pricey, that they serve a fair amount of wines by the glass (or even in flights! Do they do this?) so there's ample room for tasting, and a relaxed and non-pretentious atmosphere.
Thanks in advance!
