My blender died, recommendations for replacement?

After years of faithfully blitzing smoothies, soup, and hummus, my blender finally went out in a blaze of glory complete with a fireworks show of sparks and odd smells.

My blender has been one of my kitchen work horses over the years. I have read a few reviews, but was wondering if any SE'rs had any suggestions for a replacement.
