Welcome to the Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we peruse the pages the food sections of various national newspapers to create a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.
In anticipation of another warm weekend we thought that we'd take the heat out of this week's challenge and devote it to one of the best aspects of summer: ice cream. The inspiration for this cool challenge came from a pistachio ice cream taste test held recently at the San Francisco Chronicle where an esteemed panel of tasters put eight different brands of ice cream head to head. Long story short, Ben & Jerry's came out on top, but we thought that all of you might be able to do a little better than what's available in the freezer section.
This week's challenge is all about making ice cream, or really, any delicious frozen treat your heart desires. We're not going to be sticklers—tell us about your homemade gelato, sorbet, granitas, or even inspired popsicles and milkshakes. Dairy or fruit based, made with an ice cream maker or the old freeze-and-stir method, if it's cool and refreshing on a hot summer day we want to hear all about it.
Show us photos of your scoops, sundaes, and banana splits on Photograzing (make sure to include "Cook and Tell" in your submission title), and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. We'll post a round-up of your frozen deliciousness next Wednesday.
