Let's say I knew next to nothing about sushi and sashimi...

...because I don't. Where to start?

Sashimi is large chunks of raw fish, correct? When and why is sushi cooked?

Is it still sushi? Can sashimi be cooked?

I was reading resolutejc's thread and realized all I know is some of it comes rolled up and some of it I've had in larger raw form on rice with wasabi. I was under the impression that all sushi and sashimi would be raw.
