some help please with peanut butter cookies.

Hello all: I am looking for some help with my peanut butter cookie making. I am using a standard peanut butter cookie recipe from my mixer book. Roll them in small balls, and lightly squish with a fork. Bake at 375F for 10 minutes. My problem is that then spread too much making them too big and you can't even see the fork imprints. Ideally, I would like my cookies to be smaller, thicker, and be able to see the fork marks. If you need more info (recipe) I will reply. Thanks for any help Denise
