Like Manhattans, Grand Marnier, and sherry? Better give this classic cocktail a shot.
Notes: Hugo Ensslin's 1916 recipe didn't specify which type of sherry to use. For a lighter and drier flavor, pick a Fino or Manzanilla sherry. If you like things closer to a Manhattan, grab some Amontillado or Oloroso.
- Yield:makes 1 cocktail
- Active time: 2 minutes
- Total time:2 minutes
- 1 1/2 ounces rye whiskey
- 1 1/2 ounces sherry (see note)
- 1/4 ounce Grand Marnier
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
Add rye, sherry, Grand Marnier and Angostura bitters to a mixing glass. Fill 2/3 full with ice and stir until well chilled, about 20 seconds.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and serve.
