The bold, juicy flavor and rich crimson hue of pomegranate juice is just right for an autumnal cocktail. Pomegranates are lush with history—from their origins in the Middle East to their journey to North America where Thomas Jefferson had them planted at his beloved plantation, Monticello. This tasty pomegranate cocktail from the Food & Wine 2009 Cocktail Guide was created by Todd Thrasher of Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, VA as an ode to Jefferson's love of pomegranates.
The sweet, rich flavors of bourbon and Southern Comfort are paired with pomegranate juice and pomegranate molasses, which is a thick, tart and sweet reduction of pomegranate juice and sugar that brings a real depth to the cocktail. The result is a cocktail that is full of flavor—a little sweet, a little tart and totally delicious.
