Widely considered the leading authority on residential outdoor cooking equipment, Max has written for Serious Eats and Casual Living, and is often interviewed for a variety of programs and publications. He loves barbecue so much that he took his barbecue sauce recipes, had them bottled, and now sells Black Swan Gourmet BBQ Sauces internationally.
Barbecue was not Max's first career. He earned a BA from Columbia College in Chicago and studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Dana School of Music. He has been involved in every aspect of film, video and music production. He edited the 1991 Academy Award nominated documentaries, "The Mark of the Maker" and "Universal Hotel," which is part of a permanent exhibit at the Dachau Memorial Museum.
What's your desert island food?
"Gotta be pizza. I never say no to pizza. Might be tough to get it on a desert island though."
What's your favorite condiment?
"That’s easy. My Black Swan barbecue sauces! Great on the grill or in the kitchen. You can cook with Black Swan because it's real sauce made with fresh, pureed vegetables."
