Mary Kate Hoban is an Associate Editorial Director for The Spruce Eats. She has been with Dotdash Meredith since December 2018 and has worked across several Dotdash brands editing full product reviews and commerce roundups. Before joining the team, she worked as an editor at American Media Inc., covering fashion and beauty for In Touch Weekly, Life & Style, and Closer magazines. She has also worked as an entertainment editor at Elite Daily and an account manager at Socialfly, a social media agency, where she focused on clients in the hospitality and lifestyle spaces—including a Michelin Star restaurant. Mary Kate grew up cooking alongside her mom in the kitchen (and it's still her favorite kitchen in which to create culinary masterpieces) and gardening alongside her dad (and his beloved heirloom tomatoes) in Georgia. She's since learned to adapt family recipes for smaller portions and (much) smaller NYC spaces. She's written and edited lifestyle content for a decade now, including gift guides, product reviews, and profiles, and believes food is really all about the people—those growing it, those making it, and those enjoying it together at the table. You can usually find her with a cup of coffee in hand, unless it's happy hour, in which case she trades the coffee for a glass of wine accompanied by a good cheese board.
