Elaine Chukan Brown, a.ka. Hawk Wakawaka, is a wine writer, educator, and illustrator. She has been named the 2020 Wine Communicator of the Year by the International Wine and Spirit Competition and VinItaly and named one of the most inspiring people in wine by the Wine Industry Network. In 2019 she was shortlisted for the IWSC Wine Communicator of the Year Award.
Elaine is a columnist for Club Oenologique and a contributor to Wine & Spirits Magazine. She was the American wine specialist for JancisRobinson.com from 2015 to 2020. In addition, Elaine has contributed to The World Atlas of Wine, Oxford Companion to Wine, Decanter, World of Fine Wine, the Robb Report, Lonely Planet, and more.
Before entering the wine industry, Elaine was an academic philosopher and, previous to that, a commercial salmon fisherman in Bristol Bay, Alaska.
