Erik Lombardo at Maialino in NYC introduced us to this classic cocktail, which is basically an Old Fashioned sweetened with maraschino liqueur (we used Luxardo) and fancied up with a big spiral of an orange twist. "The earthy funk of the liqueur adds a wonderful depth to the bourbon, a perfect introduction to cold weather," says Lombardo.
2 ounces bourbon
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur, such as Luxardo
2 dashes orange bitters
1 dash Angostura bitters
Garnish: large orange twist
Place a large ice cube in an old fashioned glass. Add bourbon, maraschino, orange bitters, and Angostura and stir until chilled, about 15 seconds.
Garnish with orange twist and serve.
