Over the years, we've chronicled many of the new foods that have debuted at our great state fairs, and every year, we're impressed with the creativity of these often deep-fried inventions. This year's Arkansas State Fair has seen a boom in new items, partially due to a new fried food contest tied in to the festivities this year.
In addition to the avocados, Pop Tarts, Klondike Bars, Jell-O, and more served up battered and deep-fried at this year's fair, you'll also discover several types of fried pickles, burger varieties, and more turkey legs than you can shake, well, a turkey leg at. Beverages ranging from "Cougar Juice" (a blend of ginger ale, pineapple juice, and an unknown "secret ingredient"), rice water, powerful citrus beverages, and homemade root beer join the fair's eponymous Mexican fruit punch and hand-squeezed lemonade. S'more-inspired items are popular, and old favorites like Pig Lickers (chocolate-dipped bacon), multiple-flavored chicken wings, and hot pork rinds are back.
Whether you prefer your fair food battered and deep fried or dipped in chocolate, these bites are sure to draw crowds on the midway at the 74th annual Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock. The Arkansas State Fair continues through Sunday, October 20th.
