If you're a lobster, you should be pretty nervous around this time of year when TastingTable throws its annual Lobster Roll Rumble. Many pounds of lobster were consumed last night—boatloads, in fact, and that really isn't an exaggeration in this case. Lobster shacks and restaurants from across the country participated to show off their versions of the lobster roll.
Some went the mayo route; others stuck to melty butter. Sea salt sprinkled on some, chopped chives on others, and of course bacon made a cameo. Pepperidge Farm hot dog buns, Martin's potato rolls, and baked-fresh-that-morning brioche rolls. "Everyone's getting all wackadoodle with their rolls in here," said Marc Murphy of Ditch Plains, who said he likes his more traditional.
The lobster roll leaders of New York competed against visitors from the New England coast, San Francisco, Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and even Minneapolis (they get their lobster shipped in from Boston).
