We had a blast over the weekend feeding muffulettas to a bunch of happy people at the Sweetlife Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. We drove down to the event in the Salumeria Biellese truck with all of our muffuletta supplies: sopressata, capicola, mortadella, provolone, olive salad (eight gallons of it!) and 250 round loaves of bread from Parisi Bakery, fresh-baked just before our 4 a.m. departure from New York Saturday morning (that fresh). The other Serious Eats mobile drove down 300 chocolate bouchons from Bouchon Bakery and 300 cookies from Momofuku Milk Bar to sell at the Serious Sweets table in the festival's Food Forest.
There were two stages of music jamming all day; we were set up right next to one of them, the Treehouse Stage, which meant we could listen to the live shows and shake our hips throughout the muffuletta-making (which clearly made them taste even better). The muffulettas were a big hit—the line was flowing all day!
Many of our favorite food folks from both New York and D.C. were at the festival, too: Taim Mobile, Shake Shack, Luke's Lobster, Roberta's Pizza, Bouchon Bakery, Spindrift fizzy drinks, Smucker Farms, Jose Andres's Pepe Truck, Dolcezza, Cafe Integral, Baked and Wired, Trickling Springs Creamery, and others.
Thanks to everyone who came by and said hello! Here are some snapshots from the festival, including close-ups of the mighty muffuletta.
