You may have noticed that we're fans of food crawls on Serious Eats. So it's no surprise we're excited about Layne Mosler's (of Taxi Gourmet) Rama Tours app, which includes a bunch of food tours and crawls.
The free app lets you download guided travel and food tours for $1 to $3 apiece (with some free tours as well). The food tours are written and curated by an impressive list of fanatics, including some of our very own contributors: James Boo on New York City barbecue and Chinese food, and Kelly Bone on awesome vegetarian food in Manhattan (there's also one in the works on stellar Queens eats by Joe DiStefano). But this isn't just a New York app; there are currently tours in 14 U.S. states and 19 countries for both locals and travelers alike.
From what we've seen, the tours rely heavily on historical perspective and expert knowledge to make a more fun, authoritative experience than trawling through Yelp reviews to find a place to eat. You can read more about the travel app here and download it from the iTunes App Store.
