We're getting pumped for the Sweetlife Food + Music Festival on April 28 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. The Shins, Avicii, Kid Cudi, Fun., Explosions in the Sky, and many other bands will be there. We've been helping the Sweetlife folks curate the food selection and it's going to be mighty tasty. Over the next couple of weeks we'll show you just how tasty with more menu details—and in each post, you'll have the chance to win tickets!
Of course the organizers couldn't throw the Sweetlife Festival without serving their own Sweetgreen salads and "sweet flow" (the frozen yogurt). Sweetgreen started back in 2007 when three Georgetown seniors (classmates of SE editor Erin!) realized that D.C. wasn't eating enough salads. And we don't mean sad, wimpy salads that have you craving a real meal within five minutes—these are hearty, vibrant, colorful, and filling, made with ingredients sourced from local farms. They've grown to nine locations in the DC-area and two in Philly, with more in the works.
While you're jamming to all the bands at Sweetlife, you can munch on three of their salads:
Guacamole Greens: Mesclun with roasted chicken, avocado, grape tomatoes, red onion, crushed tortilla chips, and a lime cilantro jalapeno vinaigrette.
Caesar Reggiano: Chopped romaine with roasted chicken, shaved parmigiano reggiano, croutons, and a toasted parmesan crisp with organic caesar dressing.
Springtime Seasonal: Spicy green mesclun with crisp, raw asparagus, strawberries, sunflower seeds, feta cheese, a sprinkle of fresh mint, and homemade balsamic vinaigrette.
The menu will also include "Grain Cups" made with quinoa and veggies, and for dessert, their Sweetflow Mobile will be parked dispensing "sweet flow." The tart yogurt is made with live active cultures and they offer plenty of fresh, flavorful toppings to spoon on top: mint, berries, nuts, and whatever else is in season.
