Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
In researching dining options before heading to St. Petersburg, Florida, two things were clear. First, get fresh stone crab as often as possible. And second, go for grouper. I didn't see stone crabs on a sandwich, but grouper sandwiches were all over the place. It's quite possible that having a grouper sandwich is a prerequisite for any restaurant that wants a business license in St. Petersburg.
Local sources led me to sample the fried grouper sandwiches at Mid Peninsula Seafood Market & Restaurant, and I'm very thankful for their help. This $8 sandwich is all about the thick, fresh piece of flaky fish covered in a lightly crisp well-seasoned batter. There's not a whole lot else going on in this sandwich but with fish this good, that's just fine.
