Snapshots from Valencia: A Tour of Mercado Central (Central Market)

From October 26 to 29, I visited Valencia, Spain, on a trip sponsored by coolcapitals and Valencia Tourism. Here's a look at something from my trip.

Mercado Central (Central Market) in Valencia is Spain's largest fresh food market and one of Europe's largest and oldest running food markets, opened in 1928*. (In other words, it's a must-visit if you're in Valencia.) The cavernous building featuring stained glass windows and colorful mosaics is home to over 900 food stalls selling fruit, vegetables, spices, seafood, meat, cheese, nuts, olives, cured meats, and more.

Let's head to the market in the slideshow »

* If you read Spanish, there's an in-depth history of the market at [PDF].

Many thanks to Jose Ferri of Valencia Guias for being my guide around the market.
