Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
I've been waiting to try this sandwich since last year around Thanksgiving. I remember sitting at my desk last year during lunch hour, despaired as I read the too-far-for-a-lunch-break-trip location of 4505's pop-up turducken sandwich stand. Yes, you read that correctly: a pop-up turducken sandwich stand. So, you could probably imagine my excitement when this year, 4505 decided to serve their famous turducken sandwiches at the Ferry Plaza Farmers' Market.
Let me just say, this sandwich was worth the wait.
The turkey, duck and chicken were all very tender, and the cornbread stuffing was strategically spread across the bottom bun, making it easy to savor the meat and the moist stuffing at the same time. Fresh parsley added a nice refreshing touch to a very hearty sandwich, as did a side of pickled string beans and onions. You can never really go wrong with a toasted Acme bread bun: a slightly crunchy, grilled outside and soft, sponge-like inside. It was the perfect vessel to absorb all the turduckeny juices and the generous serving of housemade gravy.
You may have to wait a year like me to try this, but if you ever find yourself in San Francisco close to Thanksgiving, be sure to head over to 4505 Meats for this turducken sandwich.
