9 Thanksgiving-Themed Hot Dogs

Hot Dog of the Week

A unique hot dog feature each week from hot dog connoisseur and cartoonist Hawk Krall!

Two years ago when we first featured Thanksgiving hot dogs they were few and far between. Dirty Frank's in Columbus premiered their turkey-day-on-a-bun Franksgiving Dog and Zog's Dog in San Francisco offered a turkey sausage with mashed potatoes, cranberry and fried onions (both still available by the way). Other than that there were rumors of far-off stands with dogs topped with cranberry chutney or sweet potato fries. But with this new wave of modern hot dog restaurants—often run by former fine-dining chefs eager to experiment—Thanksgiving has become a serious hot dog holiday.

Legendary "encased meat emporium" Hot Doug's is closed for the holiday weekend, but their Turducken Sausage with wild boar pate, sage cheese and cranberry mustard—offered earlier this week—sounds incredible. Another worth mentioning is East Nashville's I Dream Of Weenie, a converted VW bus offering a Cornbread stuffing topped "Thanksgiving Weenie" and the "Cider House Rules"—a turkey dog glazed with cider reduction and topped with sautéed apples and onions.

Check out the slideshow above for more Thanksgiving-themed hot dogs ranging from elegant and creative to straight up ridiculous.
