16 Tasty Bites from Sunset Magazine's Savor the Central Coast Festival in California

For its second year, Sunset's Savor the Central Coast set up on the historic 14,000-acre Santa Margarita ranch near San Luis Obispo. Winemakers, chefs, brewers, farmers, and artisan food makers from all over California's oft undercelebrated middle region between San Francisco and Los Angeles, were plating and pouring samples all weekend. Sunset editors could be found leading tastings, garden tutorials, cooking seminars, and goat-milking demos.

When people needed a break from all that sipping and tasting, they could climb aboard the Pacific Coast Railroad, one of the original Disneyland coaches created by Walt Disney in the 1950s. It looped a two-mile course around the ranch, which dates back to Father Junipero Serra's mission days when Spanish padres established a farm here with the Chumash Indian population.

Grilled Oysters

Among the favorite bites of the weekend were some beautiful grilled Morro Bay oysters, lamb tagine, a goat cheese souffle, boar cavatelli, and more.
