Los Angeles: 7 Challah Loaves We Love
[Photographs: Katie Robbins, unless otherwise noted]
In the vast world of Jewish cuisine, Los Angeles holds its own pretty darn well, with plenty of kosher (and kosher-style) delis, Persian, and Israeli eateries dedicated to schnitzel and shawarma , and even a four-course Kosher tasting menu courtesy of Top Chef contestant Alex Reznik (yes, he of the Top Chef pea puree fracas fam).
But until recently I hadn't found a go-to challah.
Baking your own is all well and good, but sometimes you need a quick fix, whether for a Friday night dinner, a Sunday French toast brunch, or for mid-week sandwiches. And so off I went, scouring the city's bakery's to find the city's best challot (the plural of challah).
From richly eggy to crisp water-style to a few novelty options, just in time for the High Holidays, we've got you covered in this slideshow »
