When Lisa Fain moved to New York from Texas she was pretty sure that finding the flavors of home wouldn't be an issue, but she soon discovered that real Texan cooking (and not just Tex-Mex and barbecue) might just be the one and only regional cuisine that the Big Apple was lacking.
It was the chicken fried steak, bean-less chili, and kolaches that Fain was missing, those unique-to-Texas dishes that she'd been raised on. Instead of resigning herself to a life without chile con queso and puffy tacos, Fain started cooking, and soon after, her blog, The Homesick Texan, was born.
The Homesick Texan Cookbook is the companion cookbook to Fain's blog and it is brimming with all of the recipes, reminisces, and insight that make The Homesick Texan such a great read, plus Fain's photos are enough to stir up a Texas-sized appetite.
We're heading to the Lone Star State for a week's worth of Fain's ex-pat recipes from The Homesick Texan. We'll be whipping up reinvented takes on Chile con Queso and Chorizo Stuffed Jalapeños perfect for Friday night football snacking, smothering Cheese Enchiladas with Chile con Carne, and grilling up Dr. Pepper Ribs.
