Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
Don't be fooled by the size of this tiny deli or the even tinier old woman who runs it. The sandwiches at Petite Deli are big on flavor, especially the Turkey Delight ($5.70). A substantial pile of sliced turkey is topped with provolone, lettuce, tomato, mustard, mayo, cranberry sauce and avocado.
Inside, the space is so small that you can watch the owner slide your sandwich into her toaster oven and leave it there just long enough for the sharp provolone to start melting into the layer of creamy avocado. Her special blend of Dijon and honey mustards strikes that perfect balance of spicy and sweet. My favorite part, though, is the cranberry sauce, which brings a sweet, fruity tang.
The toasted Dutch Crunch roll may look big at first, but it doesn't overwhelm the sandwich like at many other delis. Instead it becomes the perfect toasty container for this deliciously sweet and savory sandwich.
