Weekend Cook and Tell Round Up: A Farewell to The Minimalist Column


For last week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge we asked all of you to share your favorite Mark Bittman recipes as a farewell to The Minimalist, his weekly column in New York Times dining section. Bittman's simplistic approach to cooking won our hearts over the years, introducing us to new ingredients and techniques that worked their way into our weekly dining rotation. Let's take a peek at some of your most beloved Bittman creations.

MMinNYC spent the weekend cooking up a Minimalist storm. The menu included Chocolate Layer Cake, Chicken Under a Brick, and Bittman's super simple Cornbread.

newRDcook gets the whole grains in by substituting whole wheat flour for white in Bittman's No Knead Bread recipe.

According to cathyeats her all time favorite Bittman recipe has to be these Spicy Vegetable Burgers. Made with white beans, sweet potatoes, and kale, they might just be the world's healthiest veggie burger.

Bittman's version of Jook has saved hryerby from many nights that would have been otherwise lost to overpriced takeout.

Both lemonfair and duncan1205 agree that Bittman's recipes act as great jumping off points, ideal for letting your imagination run wild and throwing in your own personal touches.

orchidgirl has a lot of love for Bittman—her go-to favorite is Ginger Fried Rice, perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Sasha @ Global Table Adventure adapted Bittman's Food Processor Scallion Pancakes and served them with moo shoo pork.

I'll miss "The Minimalist," but I'll continue to cherish Food Matters and How to Cook Everything, and I can't wait to see what else he conjures up.
