Best Sauceless Wings: Popeyes
In case you don't want Buffalo-sauce-stained fingernails for days, crispy wings are another option. Even sans sauce, they're plenty juicy with all the chicken grease. Not only the best of this category, they were also the biggest. Unlike the iconic chicken wing, Popeyes doesn't detach and cut them into little pieces. They just give you the whole darn aerodynamic limb. So unless you're emotionally attached to the mini concept, go for Popeyes.
Best for Spicy Fans: Domino's Fiery Wings
The real spicy freaks might scoff but they're the hottest of what we tried from this dial-up wings genre. To extinguish the flame—if you're not scoffing, but borderline choking—get out the mini tubs of blue cheese and follow with a dairy extinguisher. (Milk contains a protein that washes away tongue-burning molecules.) Of all the fast-food blue cheeses we tried, this was the least objectionable.
Best for the Spicy Intolerant: Domino's
Domino's realizes that not everyone can handle their "fiery." They also offer mild, medium, and hot. The mild and medium are pretty weak; the hot might numb your lips for a minute.
Best Non-Buffalo Wing Flavor: KFC's Honey BBQ
The sauce had an appealing sweet-to-tang ratio; appealing enough to lick clean after instead of reaching for a Wet Nap. Unlike the Domino's "BBQ" option, which had hardly any crunch, the KFC wings had an ideal chicken crust.
Best Fast Food Buffalo Wings: KFC
They have good skin-to-meat proportions, tangy sauce (also available sauceless if you want to add your own) and induce a good bellyache of success after. They're also bigger-than-average-sized wings. Good for feeding a big crowd.
