Brickyard Cafe's California Panini ($8.75, served with a heaping pile of salad) is a super-sized panino whose relatively slim profile can just barely contain the mass of meat, cheese, and veggies within.
This stellar sandwich starts with thinly sliced sourdough bread that's stacked with real turkey breast (not deli cuts), mashed avocado, jack cheese, tomato, and a smear of aioli. The star of the California panino is undoubtedly the meat, which is some of the moistest, tastiest turkey I've ever had the pleasure of mowing down. From the crispy grilled bread to the creamy avocado, to the blanket of melted jack cheese, this sandwich is as much about texture as it is about flavor.
Speaking of which, the Caesar salad with house-made dressing and shaved parmesan made for an excellent pairing—and a huge, yet affordable lunch.
