Cook the Book: 'My Sweet Mexico'

20101220-129312-my-sweet-mexico.jpgFany Gerson's My Sweet Mexico is a gorgeous journey through Mexico fueled by icy paletas, warm chocolate caliente, and plenty of pan dulce. Gerson, a New York-based pastry chef, has put together a coffee-table-worthy dessert book devoted to the vast and varied sweets of Mexico.

My Sweet Mexico is filled with enough breathtaking photos, pastry history lessons, and intriguing recipes to make you wonder why the sweet traditions of Mexico haven't gotten more attention. From sweet drinks and sugary morning pastries to inspired modern Mexican desserts, My Sweet Mexico is brimming with exotic, must-make dessert recipes.

This week we'll be testing out Convent Cookies originally made by nuns in Mexico City, Coffee-Flavored Corn Cookies made with lard, and little ring-shaped Anise Cookies with cinnamon and lime zest.
