According to Lyniece North Talmadge, author of The Sweet Potato Lover's Cookbook, we aren't eating nearly enough sweet potatoes. In recent years the sweet potato's popularity has risen with the health-conscious set—all those vitamins, minerals, and fiber. But for most of us, the delicately starchy tuber is generally reserved for holiday pies and sides.
In an effort to get the sweet potato a bit more culinary recognition, Talmadge has put together a cookbook entirely devoted to the the member of the Convolvulaceae family. Beginning with a selection of sweet potato appetizers and hors d'œuvres, The Sweet Potato Lover's Cookbook introduces the sweet potato into every course imaginable, from sweet and savory breads to soups and mains, even candy and cocktails.
Since Thanksgiving is prime sweet potato-eating time, we thought we'd take this week before the holiday to share some of our favorite recipes from The Sweet Potato Lover's Cookbook with you. We'll start with Sweet Potato Cloverleaf Rolls, serve up a decadent side of Sweet Potatoes Au Gratin, and finish up with Sweet Potato Praline and a Sweet Potato Roll Cake filled with pineapple cream cheese icing.
