Cook the Book: 'Around My French Table'

20100920aroundmyfrenchtable.jpgAlthough it might be something of a cliché, falling in love with France is not very hard. That was precisely what happened to Dorie Greenspan as a newlywed on her first visit to Paris. During that trip, Greenspan developed a passion for pastry, thanks to a tiny tart filled with pastry cream and fraises des bois (miniature Alpine strawberries), and for French cuisine in general.

Since that journey, Greenspan has tirelessly pursued her two passions and made quite a name for herself as an award-winning cookbook author and food writer. Her latest book, Around My French Table, is collection of recipes gleaned from her time spent living (she eventually moved there) and cooking in France. Adapting recipes from both acclaimed chefs and home cooks, she's written a cookbook that's both modern and inventive but also filled with traditional recipes as timeless and satisfying as those featured in Julia Child's masterful French volumes.

This week we are going to share a meal's worth of recipes from Around My French Table beginning with a Provençal Olive Fougasse and an intriguing All-White Salad, followed by Greenspan's Go-To Beef Daube, and ending up with Salted Butter Break-Up Cookies.
