Weekend Cook and Tell Round Up: Labor Day Barbecue

Last week we asked you to let us know what was on the menu for your Labor Day Barbecue. It sounds like all of you ate pretty well over the weekend! Here are some of our favorite responses:

aholsber claims to not have done anything too impressive—he only slow-cooked two whole briskets, a pork loin, ten pounds of chicken breasts, two racks of spareribs and five pounds of sausage in his smoker. I don't know about you, but that sounds pretty impressive to me!

I had never heard of deviled potatoes until kirbie posted about them. The red and blue potatoes made them even more of a Labor Day hit.

hmw0029 made Mexican Roadside Chicken with some peach salsa. A four-pound chicken devoured between two friends? That must have been one good chicken!

Buckley marinated a "like whoa" skirt steak and barbecued some corn. What's in your like whoa marinade?

korovka made a great grilling menu for the parents: crispy skin salmon fillet and a salad with corn, bacon, and tomatoes (both recipes were from Mark Bittman), a nectarine gallette, and agua de jamaica.

Not a big fan of the summer heat, and anxious to get the kids back to school, Raiders757 celebrated by hickory smoking chickens, grilling corn on the cob, and serving salads with homemade Italian dress while everyone watched some NASCAR racing.

Junie is also looking forward to the fall. This menu of deviled eggs, lamb shish kebab, grilled vegetables, and caramelized onion with wild mushroom rice pilaf seems like it would be equally appetizing on a crisp fall evening.

Gator Pam made the whole meal on the grill—from brats and corn to a fantastic dessert, Grilled Pineapple with Molasses-Lime Butter.

Thankfully there are still some tasty ears out there so we can enjoy this recipe for grilled Mexican corn shared by KimberlyBelle.

LunaPierCook took hot dogs to the next level by making Flint-style Coney sauce using beef kidneys, beef heart, and ground suet. All I can say is wow!

Fellow Serious Eats contributor and hot dog aficionado Hawk Krall and I spent Labor Day weekend with friends, and needless to say there were many hot dogs involved. Along with grilling up two different types of natural casing dogs, there where great ribs, burgers, and chicken. All of this meat had to be balanced with a few vegetables, so we roasted some wild mushrooms and made heirloom tomato and potato salads. I haven't eaten that well in a long time!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to participate in this week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge. We love to snoop on what you're cooking at home. Be sure to head over to Talk and read about next week's challenge: The Temporary Vegetarian.
