Gotta go with the pulled pork and mac and cheese dinner I made with my brother (his recipes) while he was visiting my wife and I after the birth of our son. Mac and cheese and bbq sauce for the pulled pork were both made from scratch and TOTALLY delicious.

Though replicating the Penne Rustica from Macaroni Grill on my first try is a close second.

Spice Hunting: Drying Chiles at Home

I've been growing (and drying) Thai Birds-eye chilis for about the last 3 years. To dry them, I just sit them on a window sill that gets plenty of sun, for a few weeks.

I wait to dry them until they're red (i.e. fully mature). That way I can use the seeds to start new plants for the next growing season!

Cook the Book: 'Tender: A Cook and His Vegetable Patch'

My veggie patch is brand new. Just built it a few weeks ago. A nice little 4'x8' raised bed built into a side hill in the yard, using four levels of 4"x4" cedar posts.

I've jammed it full with 5 tomato plants, 5 Bell Pepper plants, 8-10 yellow onions, 8-10 red onions, 4 heads of Iceburg lettuce, 2 rows of mixed lettuce greens/spinach/collard greens, 1 row of carrots, 2 cayenne pepper plants, and 2 Thai bird's eye chilli plants. Also have about a dozen green been plants started along the edge of a flower bed near the garden. And chives, basil, dill, cilantro, and parsley in planters on the back deck.

Can't wait for those fresh tomatoes!!!

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Truffle Lovers Pasta

I have a small bottle of black truffle oil that I drizzle over pasta on occasion.
And I once had a dish at an upscale local restaurant that involved a tuna steak topped with bacon slices and a quail egg, all on a bed of cooked grain (I think it was barley) in a very rich truffle sauce. I don't recall any shaved truffle on the dish though so I'd love to try the real thing.

Fondest pork memory...not quite... But definitely my most recent and disturbing pork memories was a few months ago. A couple days after a pig roast for my cousin's wedding, my dog Kenzie (a Westie) got a nasty case of doggie diahrea from licking at some roasted pig grease coated aluminum foil that was carelessly tossed asside after the butchering of the delicious hog. Sick dog = bad news....
