we need a restaurant to make a shower for our daughter in bayside
Caffe on the Green at 201-10 Cross Island Pkwy is a beautiful restaurant
Does bobby flay get beaten everytime on throwdown?
I'm not a fan of his either, but I have caught a few episodes of Throwdown.
I think Anthony Bourdain got it right on a recent blog posting in which he discussed the Food Network's personalities.
Don't know if you've read it, but of Flay he said:
"subjecting poor Bobby to THROWDOWN; the object of which is to allow every web-fingered geek with a backyard grill--or half-mad muffin maker to proclaim, “I beat Bobby Flay at makin’ barbeque!” at the heart-warming end of show--before returning to tend their meth labs.. I watched poor Bobby battle to a draw recently in some bogus Southwestern “Chili Face-Off.” Now…does ANYONE actually believe that Bobby Flay can’t make a better chili than a supermarket ground beef bearing amateur? I don’t. It’s a cruel exercise in humiliation. A variation on “Dunk Bozo” or “Shoot The Geek,” at the carnival. And whatever I might have thought of Flay’s previous TV efforts, I find the network’s misuse of one of their founding chefs to be nauseatingly cynical."
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
I love Glenny's White Cheddar flavored Soy Crisps

Any thoughts on Lure Fishbar?
Thanks for the tip. Had the cheeseburger Lure style, it really lives up to it's hype

This week's 'New York,' photo of enormous clams, p. 55
Haha I was thinking the same thing; I stared at that photo for quite a while. It's oddly enthralling
Recommendations for sushi in Brooklyn
Whenever I go to Brooklyn I stop by Mambo Sushi at 2005 Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay. Their fish is always great and they have a vast array of interesting sashimi-type appetizers
Question of the Day: Not for the squeamish--ever get food sickness?
A friend of mine recently convinced me to go to White Castle with him. I'd never had it before, which thouroughly surprised him, and after much deliberation I decided to give it a try. Big mistake.Their little burgers didn't seem too awful at first, but soon after we left my stomach was emitting all sorts of foreign noise. Needless to say, I spent a long time in the bathroom that day.
Any recommendations on an excellent brunch in Manhattan?
I live a few blocks from Lincoln Center, and have brunch with my roomate every weekend at Le Pain Quotidien at 60 West 65th Street.
We always order a brioche to share and I get my favorite sandwich: the tuna salad with olive tapenade and roasted peppers.
Its 2:41 am and you've just visited your fridge...
Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby and Cool Whip
What's the one food you just won't eat?
I come from Ukraine where cow's tongue is considered a delicacy.
I have vivid memories of opening my fridge when I was young only to find an enormous raw tongue neatly displayed on a platter.
It scarred me for life; I've never tried it and never will
Question of the Day: How Do You Like Your Fries?
I live in Queens and there is a famous deli here called Cherry Valley that's open 24/7. They serve fries "couch" style; covered in gravy and mozzarella cheese. It may not look appetizing but I can't go a week without stopping by there at least once and ordering their waffle couch fries.
Question of the Day: What's your guilty pleasure?
Applebee's boneless buffalo wings with ranch dressing.
I read somewhere that the Total Fat amounts to something around 89g, and that's without the dressing.
I love them nonetheless
Question of the Day: What's Your Favorite Holiday Food?
as a Ukrainian I'll second monica's answer, home made pierogies are amazing!
Best sushi in nyc?
Sandro, I agree that great fresh fish can be found anywhere, however, simply fresh fish can't be compared to the fish I've tasted at Sushi of Gari or Tomoe. General sushi places that I eat at on a weekly basis are great, sure, but none have ever provided me the euphoria I've experienced at Gari - that sort of fish can make me sit back in my chair with eyes wide open in disbelief.
If the rumors about Masa are true, I can't wait to try it out. There has to be SOMETHING different about the fish there if people are willing to go back more than once and spend a ludicrous amount of money on sushi
Best sushi in nyc?
Haven't yet been to Masa - can't wait to go though.
Saturday night I'm going to Megu for the 1st time, has anyone ever been?
Does bobby flay get beaten everytime on throwdown?
My family and I love the show, I think he allows himself to be beat so often to help those working on growing. Bobby's recipe's are awesome, I haven't made one I don't like; and I make alot of his recipe's, winner or not!!
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
I loooove Jay's brand "Hot Stuff" barbecue potato chips. I pick and choose the ones with the most red dust on them!
Otherwise, gimme pork rinds with Tabasco any day. I prefer the way oversalted, puffy styrofoamy-textured ones, but I'll eat the super crunchy ones as well.
I also like Andy Capp hot fries/cheese fries/pub/fries. They're basically stick-shaped Funyuns with cheese flavoring, yes?
Holy crap I love junk.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Cheddar and sour cream ruffles are my absolute favourite but I'm not allowed to have them because once I do I need more and more and more. I mostly end up eating Dirty Jalapeno Heat potato chips and Baked Cheetos.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Okay, I'm changing the topic a little. Maybe it's just an addition. What do y'all like to use as dips? Regular corn chips are gluten-free for me...yay! What are your favorite dips ("normal" or otherwise), for all of these tasty chips
Oh, and I actually enjoy baked Lays...yum!
What's the one food you just won't eat?
Oh god. There really are a lot of things I will not eat. There is not just one. But, here are a few:
~Roasted Peppers - I will not eat them or anything they touch. AWFUL
~Mushrooms
~Asparagus
~Water Chestnuts
~FISH (but I do eat the Shellfish family-MMMM)
~Anything that has nuts in it. Hate it when people put nuts in bownies! No. This ruins the taste. But man, do I love nuts by themselves.
~Miracle Whip
I could go on, but I will stop here...
What's the one food you just won't eat?
it's a very very...very long list... it's probably quicker/easier to list what I will eat.
One thing I absolutely refuse to pick around is mushrooms, if anything has mushrooms in it, I would rather starve than consume.... it's tainted.
What's the one food you just won't eat?
W. Who wants to eat anill eat bananas and pineapple and peaches; but nothing with them as an ingredient.
I too, try to stay away from organs (except liver.) Oh, and lima beans.
Crabs have brains large enough to extract and serve?!?
What's the one food you just won't eat?
Fish. Fish sauce. Anything remotely fishy.
Also, I HATE runny egg yolks, they remind me of mucous.
What's the one food you just won't eat?
Beets and turnips. Can't get around the metallic taste either. Used to hate brussels sprouts, but found a way to make them yummy (roast them!).
As to the "sea urchin roe" detester, I can guarantee you have never tasted nor even seen sea urchin roe. Uni, which is the food that comes from the sea urchin is, in fact, gonads. When you order sea urchin in a sushi restaurant, you are getting the testicles from the hermaphroditic aquatic hedgehog. But I know what you mean. Uni is not my favorite either. Nor are crab brains, which I was served many times when I lived in Japan. For that matter, any kind of brains--sweatbreads from cattle, etc.
Back to gonads. There's a lovely restaurant in Oklahoma City, OK called Cattlemen's. They serve a dish called "lamb fries." We ordered it and ate it up with relish without knowing it was, you guessed it, lamb testicles. All I can say is they were incredibly tender and tasty.
What's the one food you just won't eat?
I won't eat bananas or anything with bananas in it. They don't agree with me and even the smell turns me off. Yuck!
What's the one food you just won't eat?
I will absolutely not eat beets, oatmeal, raisins (or any other dried fruit for that matter) and chunks of cooked carrots (when I use carrots in soups, I grate them or cut into tiny matchsticks, then they don't bother me, but I simply cannot bite into a chunk of a cooked carrot). I will not eat most cooked fish (other than Chilean sea bass, but only prepared in a certain way). Oops. it was supposed to be "the one food" I won't eat...[hanging head in shame]
What's the one food you just won't eat?
Olives and mushrooms.
You know, I just can't stand their...texture.
It's sort of like tomatoes.
I mean, it took me a while to tolerate tomatoes, but olives and mushrooms are "new" to me, I guess, considering tomatoes have been pushed on me since I was a kid.
Also, raisens and cotton candy. Ew.
Does bobby flay get beaten everytime on throwdown?
I have seen Bobby beat alot of people. My husband and I love the show too! He tied with the chilie competition, won the cupcake one, the mac and cheese one, and other ones I can't remember. I have seen him win more than lose and I love it. Did anyone see the Donut one? That David guy was a read idiot, he is the only poor winner I saw, never had a good thing to say and was so worried about losing, I wouldn't buy a donut from him if he had the last donut around. :)
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Any kind of BBQ chip with Eastern Salsa From The All Spice Company Out of Eugene Or http://www.theallspiceco.com/salsa.html
And kettle chips Dijon Flavor all bye themselves. Yumm!
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
We really need more variety in ketchup chips here in the States; Herr's are just meh. Canadian Lays ketchup chips are really good, and their dill pickle are decent, too.
Utz is a mid-Atlantic chip brand that is much better than any of the national brands, or those in the northeast for that matter (e.g., Wise), which tend to be too salty. Utz' Cheddar and Sour Cream are fabulous, as are their regular chips.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Stacy's pita chips with All Seasons Kitchens' roasted garlic salsa cream cheese dip. I'm crushed that my Costco no longer carries that dip.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
toastykitten, my friends and I developed a serious Fran obsession while in Japan in high school. My favorite flavor is Fran Duo - white chocolate layered with dark chocolate, yummmmm.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Kettle Chips are awesome. As are the Maui sweet onion chips. I forget what brand they are, but I can't stop eating them.
As for the weirder snack things I like - shrimp chips, dried cuttlefish, salted dried prunes, dried and salted orange peels are not for the faint of heart, but they're what I grew up eating. When I was in China, we made a beeline for all the different snack stores.
Has anyone tried the new more upscale Pocky called Fran? It's way, way tastier than Pocky. (But a bit more expensive.)
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Ooh, the Bayou Onion Zapps I had when I was in New Orleans were heavenly.
And regarding dips: Helluva Good really needs to get distributed nationwide. Or at least downstate. Such perfection.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Almost anything Kettle Chip, and Lays Ketchup.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Creole tomoto Zapps. They are a local (new orleans) brand sorta like kettle, but with even more interesting flavors.
Does bobby flay get beaten everytime on throwdown?
He beat the chowder guy from Williamsburg.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
Bayless' Frontera tortilla chips with any of his awesome salsas.
What's your favorite Chip/Snack and flavor?
For me it's in the combining. Barbecue Twist Fritos and Gallo dry salami, plain Ruffles and Lipton Onion Dip made with a couple shots of worcestershire, chili and sharp cheddar over regular Fritos, Gueerrro tortilla chips and homemade pico de gallo, homemade flour tortilla chips and homemade guacamole. Mmmmm...chips...
