Any thoughts on Lure Fishbar?

I'm having a dinner gathering there tomorrow night for my birthday. Was wondering if anyone has recommendations as to what to try, etc?

Russian/Ukrainian restaurants?

Does anyone know any authentic Russian or Ukrainian restaurants in the city, Brooklyn, or Queens?

I know there's Veselka in the city, but I'm not a fan. There's also plenty of so called "Russian" restaurants in Brooklyn, but they're clearly not authentic. They're dubbed Russian due to the fact that the majority of their patrons are Russian, as well as the owners. I can't seem to find any good spots.

Does bobby flay get beaten everytime on throwdown?

I'm not a fan of his either, but I have caught a few episodes of Throwdown.

I think Anthony Bourdain got it right on a recent blog posting in which he discussed the Food Network's personalities.
Don't know if you've read it, but of Flay he said:
"subjecting poor Bobby to THROWDOWN; the object of which is to allow every web-fingered geek with a backyard grill--or half-mad muffin maker to proclaim, “I beat Bobby Flay at makin’ barbeque!” at the heart-warming end of show--before returning to tend their meth labs.. I watched poor Bobby battle to a draw recently in some bogus Southwestern “Chili Face-Off.” Now…does ANYONE actually believe that Bobby Flay can’t make a better chili than a supermarket ground beef bearing amateur? I don’t. It’s a cruel exercise in humiliation. A variation on “Dunk Bozo” or “Shoot The Geek,” at the carnival. And whatever I might have thought of Flay’s previous TV efforts, I find the network’s misuse of one of their founding chefs to be nauseatingly cynical."

Recommendations for sushi in Brooklyn

Whenever I go to Brooklyn I stop by Mambo Sushi at 2005 Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay. Their fish is always great and they have a vast array of interesting sashimi-type appetizers

Question of the Day: Not for the squeamish--ever get food sickness?

A friend of mine recently convinced me to go to White Castle with him. I'd never had it before, which thouroughly surprised him, and after much deliberation I decided to give it a try. Big mistake.Their little burgers didn't seem too awful at first, but soon after we left my stomach was emitting all sorts of foreign noise. Needless to say, I spent a long time in the bathroom that day.

Any recommendations on an excellent brunch in Manhattan?

I live a few blocks from Lincoln Center, and have brunch with my roomate every weekend at Le Pain Quotidien at 60 West 65th Street.

We always order a brioche to share and I get my favorite sandwich: the tuna salad with olive tapenade and roasted peppers.

What's the one food you just won't eat?

I come from Ukraine where cow's tongue is considered a delicacy.
I have vivid memories of opening my fridge when I was young only to find an enormous raw tongue neatly displayed on a platter.
It scarred me for life; I've never tried it and never will

What's the one food you just won't eat?

Oh god. There really are a lot of things I will not eat. There is not just one. But, here are a few:

~Roasted Peppers - I will not eat them or anything they touch. AWFUL
~Mushrooms
~Asparagus
~Water Chestnuts
~FISH (but I do eat the Shellfish family-MMMM)
~Anything that has nuts in it. Hate it when people put nuts in bownies! No. This ruins the taste. But man, do I love nuts by themselves.
~Miracle Whip

I could go on, but I will stop here...

it's a very very...very long list... it's probably quicker/easier to list what I will eat.

One thing I absolutely refuse to pick around is mushrooms, if anything has mushrooms in it, I would rather starve than consume.... it's tainted.

W. Who wants to eat anill eat bananas and pineapple and peaches; but nothing with them as an ingredient.

I too, try to stay away from organs (except liver.) Oh, and lima beans.

Crabs have brains large enough to extract and serve?!?

What's the one food you just won't eat?

Fish. Fish sauce. Anything remotely fishy.

Also, I HATE runny egg yolks, they remind me of mucous.

From Talk

What's the one food you just won't eat?

Beets and turnips. Can't get around the metallic taste either. Used to hate brussels sprouts, but found a way to make them yummy (roast them!).

As to the "sea urchin roe" detester, I can guarantee you have never tasted nor even seen sea urchin roe. Uni, which is the food that comes from the sea urchin is, in fact, gonads. When you order sea urchin in a sushi restaurant, you are getting the testicles from the hermaphroditic aquatic hedgehog. But I know what you mean. Uni is not my favorite either. Nor are crab brains, which I was served many times when I lived in Japan. For that matter, any kind of brains--sweatbreads from cattle, etc.

Back to gonads. There's a lovely restaurant in Oklahoma City, OK called Cattlemen's. They serve a dish called "lamb fries." We ordered it and ate it up with relish without knowing it was, you guessed it, lamb testicles. All I can say is they were incredibly tender and tasty.

I won't eat bananas or anything with bananas in it. They don't agree with me and even the smell turns me off. Yuck!

From Talk

What's the one food you just won't eat?

I will absolutely not eat beets, oatmeal, raisins (or any other dried fruit for that matter) and chunks of cooked carrots (when I use carrots in soups, I grate them or cut into tiny matchsticks, then they don't bother me, but I simply cannot bite into a chunk of a cooked carrot). I will not eat most cooked fish (other than Chilean sea bass, but only prepared in a certain way). Oops. it was supposed to be "the one food" I won't eat...[hanging head in shame]

From Talk

What's the one food you just won't eat?

Olives and mushrooms.

You know, I just can't stand their...texture.
It's sort of like tomatoes.
I mean, it took me a while to tolerate tomatoes, but olives and mushrooms are "new" to me, I guess, considering tomatoes have been pushed on me since I was a kid.

Also, raisens and cotton candy. Ew.

Does bobby flay get beaten everytime on throwdown?

I have seen Bobby beat alot of people. My husband and I love the show too! He tied with the chilie competition, won the cupcake one, the mac and cheese one, and other ones I can't remember. I have seen him win more than lose and I love it. Did anyone see the Donut one? That David guy was a read idiot, he is the only poor winner I saw, never had a good thing to say and was so worried about losing, I wouldn't buy a donut from him if he had the last donut around. :)
