Spicy Ginger and French Lentil Soup

I wish I had seen the other comment on this recipe before I made it. Salvageable only by serving it on a bed of rice, with a heap of crumbled bacon...only when extremely hungry.

Cook the Book: 'The Occasional Vegetarian'

A hearty bowl of Roman mushroom soup. A rich mushroom stock loaded with plenty of fresh and dried mushrooms and herbs, and farro (or what I more often have on hand, wheatberries).

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: The Sriracha Lover's Ultimate Gift Pack

You're suggesting there ISN'T a sriracha-friendly food? Heck, I even like it with rich ice cream, but anything with eggs is a winner.

Poll: BBQ Sauce on Pizza, Way or No Way?

This falls in the same category as fake meat burgers for me. Putting BBQ sauce, cheese, and toppings on top of a pizza crust is a tasty thing. But it is definitely NOT pizza.

Giveaway: Enter to Win This Panasonic Breadmaker

Lately, I've been mad about chewy breads with lots of herbs.

From Serious Eats

Cook the Book: 'The Japanese Grill'

I'm in Alaska for the summer. That means lots, and lots, and lots of grilled salmon. Oh, and fava beans lately.

Cook the Book: 'In the Small Kitchen'

The kitchen I grew up in was a big, glorious kitchen, with terracotta tile floors that soaked up the sun from the south-facing picture windows looking out upon the Sierra Mountains.
Now, my entire apartment, including the efficiency kitchen, could fit in that space. All I really want back is the view, though.

Cook the Book: 'Super Natural Every Day'

The healthiest meals I whip up are what I call the Garbage Disposal Salads--chop up whatever's on hand, and eat it with a fork.
Lately, I've been on a grains kick, though.

Cook the Book: 'Goat: Meat, Milk, Cheese'

I love what great lawnmowers they are. They're cute, they fuel themselves as they go, and they fertilize? What's not to love!
Oh, you meant to eat? A friend's mom made me the most amazing goat milk biscuits once that I still dream about.

Weekend Giveaway: 'My Father's Daughter'

I don't know. I have never been in a celebrity's kitchen.

Cook the Book: 'River Cottage Every Day'

The breakfast table is where it's at. Eggs on toast with some seasonal veg (with pea sprouts, soon). It's not fancy, but simply perfect.

Cook the Book: 'Serve Yourself'

I eat most meals solo. I go for whatever has preservable leftovers (stew is good, french fries are bad).

From Serious Eats

Cook the Book: 'Plenty'

A surprising recipe that came to me by way of Rachel Ray of all places, for Spring Baked Ziti, with all the best spring veg while it's still cool enough out to turn the oven on. Knocked my socks off!

From Serious Eats

Weekend Giveaway: 'Clean Start'

I try to eat as locally as possible, which means several months of storage crops and preserves. There is nothing more exhilerating than finally getting raw, fresh produce!

Weekend Giveaway: 'The Food Matters Cookbook'

It's been an ongoing process for several years, so I couldn't point to a single thing. I eat very little meat now, and am turned off by ingredients I can't pinpoint (unfortunately, that includes a lot of baked goods, but my waistline is grateful for that).

Cook the Book: 'A Bird in the Oven and Then Some'

Jamie Oliver's Chicken in Milk. I think I'm going to go make some right now!

Gourmet Dog Japon at Seattle's Pike Place Market

A rather peculiar place opened up on First Hill in Seattle, serving up Japanese gourmet hot dogs and crepes. I've only had the crepes, and was grateful for the hospital next door.

Cook the Book: 'The Sriracha Cookbook'

There are non-Sriracha friendly foods? I put it in everything but dessert, and even that is up for consideration.
Lately, it's been making a regular appearance in homemade salad dressings.

Boston: A Bowl of Matzoh Ball Soup—and a Side of Guilt—from the New England Soup Factory

I just moved away from Boston last June, so this is my first winter away from NESF in years. I'm lost without them! Come summer, I'll be missing their cold fruit soups. :(
