I agree this place is substandard the food is not even in the top 100 pizzarias of the city the kosher pizza store a few stores away is on par with this ripoff joint.. Pizza is limp and bitter, overpriced the salads are not fresh the pasta is overcooked if you want authentic italian food go to patsy's this place will disapoint

Isabella's is just another example of a sure thing being screwed up by the L.E.S. Syndrome of schlocky people coming to what they perceive as a schlocky neighborhood, thinking they can get away with things that would never be tolerated in any other Manhattan neighborhood. That's why the turn over is so great down here.. The whole "Luigi is in Italy scouting Pizza recipes" schtik is hysterical. Isabella's started out great but deteriorated due to cluelss, inept and poor management. They should be selling slices instead of turkey and cheese sandwiches $ 3.50 lunch specials[ with a free can of Coke!]. They won't last the winter.

they were giving out free samples today in front of the store pizza was ok average fare they say luigi is back in italy scouting local pizza recipes for isabellas he will retern in june or july with new recipes

I grew up in Miami eating Mike's Pizza at least twice a week, and he always made his sicilian slices this way, I think it's the best

There used to be a small chain in Florida, called Dino's, that made their Sicialian pie this way. it was actually quite good, though their regular pizza was not. it was soon taken over and renamed Brooklyn's, at least the main location we used to frequent. Brooklyn's, sorry to say, is a disgrace to their name.

Point in fact, John's pizza (on Bleeker) makes their pizza crust/cheese sauce.
their reasoning being that the cheese sort of attaches itself to the crust as it bakes so you don't get the cheese sliding off of the slice with the first bite.
also, the sauce makes its way down through the cheese as the cheese melts, and most of it ends up under the cheese anyway.
grimaldi's does the same thing.

L&B puts the sauce on top o' the cheese as well. I think Rosa's in Maspeth does as well but its been a while since I had a square there.
