Dinner Tonight: Sauerkraut and Sausage Paprikash
Sprechen zie Deustche Baby! I picked up some kraut and kielbasa at the store last week, now I can celebrate as I salivate. I stopped drinking so I'll have to go with the Black Forrest cookies. Looks great!

Just went a couple days ago on SE's recommendation. Couldn't have been happier. My girlfriend got the beef on weck, and it was magnificent, with a deep meaty flavor. My reuben was moist, delicious, and (I'm sure I'm going to take some crap for this) better than Zingerman's and just over half the price.
The hush puppies were delicious, but I also got the "rings of fire", which I wouldn't bother with again. The onion rings were beautifully seasoned but far too oily, and the hot sauce, while good and spicy, ended up being a chore by the end of the meal. We're definitely going back. Thanks, SE!

Oh has anyone had the 'Sam's Sushi' experience? And if so...any advice? Thanks!

I'm over in nashville tomorrow or the next - glad I came across this thread.
Thanks!
Nashville Eats?
I believe Sunset Grill in Hillsboro Village has a cheaper late night menu (after 11?). Ru San's is not exclusive to Nashville but is cheap and fun.
Nashville Eats?
Gotta co-sign with Emsev on this thread... a lot of the suggestions here are ok places to eat, but if you're TRULY a serious eater you're not looking for the chains or fast casual places. Fortunately Nashville has a lot of solid local cheap eats, even if a lot of them aren't right near where you'll be staying. Cheap booze is also readily available as well.
In the already mentioned Hillsboro Village area check out Savarino's for great italian sandwiches and pastries and will put you near several bars. Unfortunately they don't stay open super late. If you're not super hungry though, the small plates at the nearby Cabana make for decent drunk food.
Jack's BBQ on lower broadway is the best bet in that neck of the woods, although Rippy's can give them a run for their money when it comes to ribs (but not anything else). Don't even bother looking for food on 2nd avenue proper.
Also, if it were me, I'd say you could eat late at Mojo Grill (while you wash it down with drinks from the adjacent Broadway Brewhouse) and then mosey up the street to Red Door Saloon for drinks that will give you more bang for your buck. THEN if you want to kick yourself for not going to undergrad in Nashville, stumble further to Demonbruen street.
Finally... Prince's Hot Chicken Shack. Steal someone's car to get there if you have to. It's worth it.
Baking with Whole Wheat Flour
Loaves made with 100% whole wheat flour are excellent substitutes for Hadite blocks. Just don't use 'em to prop up your car while you are working under it.

I was recently in Nashville and the best place we ate was out at the Loveless Cafe. Downhome family style, all the biscuits you can eat. I'm told that some locals don't like it as much as they used to, but if that's the case, it must have been heaven before, because it's pretty close to that now.

Germantown Bistro is nice, but not really in walking distance from Union Sta.. I also like the Mojo grill for Cajun bent food.
Fried Bolonga sandwhich in a HonkeyTonk goes perfect with a cold beer too! Sorry I cant' remenber which one it was though. Loved it and I hate bolonga.
Baking with Whole Wheat Flour
i made a strange discovery while baking with whole wheat flour (kind arthur brand): my husband and i totally prefer our chocolate chip cookies made with all whole wheat flour. somehow they just taste more buttery and rich. i highly suggest trying it out. and i use the exact same amount of w.w. flour as the amount of a.p. flour most recipes call for.
also, pizza dough is tricky with whole wheat - but king arthur also makes white whole wheat (i guess it has less germ/ bran?) and that works pretty well for my pizzas.
Baking with Whole Wheat Flour
WickedGoodDinner sums it up well. However if you check out recipes on on Heidi Swanson's site:
you will find astoundingly good recipes using a variety of healthy flours.
I have had great success with this recipe which is made of entirely whole wheat flour. True it is denser than a regular scone but mighty tasty nonetheless. I also recommend Whole Foods Brand Whole Wheat Pastry Flour which is definitely lighter than traditional whole wheat flour.

Dinner Tonight: Sauerkraut and Sausage Paprikash
Thank-you Blake! As a Buffalonian [NY type] I grew up with a German mother, and lived in a densely populated Polish community.......both of which leads to a high consumption of sauerkraut. I must say I am always amazed when someone comes up with fresh/simple culinary combos & this one surely fits the bill in using sauerkraut and sour cream together. This was so good I tripled everything except the liquids & we ate it for 2 days and then my hubby took the finale to work. It is satisfying, comfort food with a kick! I did add 2 Russet potatoes like you suggested, mostly to round out the recipe. I have to admit as well, that I precooked the kraut to alleviate some of the acid/salt. We had freshly baked rye bread & butter on the side..........again, sooooooooo good, it will become a staple!
