In Season: Mangoes

we are fortunate in Australia that in the beginning of December it is the start of Mango season- and you have to try a Queensland mango as they are simply amazing-- we buy them by the case and eat them till we get sick of them-- the best way is to just eat them by themselves- and savour every delicious bite! okay, maybe cube them and sprinkle on a Prawn salad

In Season: Beets

i just wanted to comment that in Australia, it is common to find beet or Beetroot as they call it- on hamburgers!! I was shocked at first, but now love it and will always have it. A visiting friend from the states also loved it and sneeks them on to burgers for his children so they get another vegetable-try it-use the canned ones- pickled or plain

Must-Go Places in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle

a correction for up above-the seafood place in Seattle is called The Crab Pot,not the Crab Cooker-sorry about that! One last one- when I was a teenager and went to concerts and events in Seattle we always stopped at Ivars Seafood bar before jumping on the ferry home- if you go by it you will see lots of folks there enjoying the food-popular stop-that's all from me

Must-Go Places in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle

While in Seattle, the best meal for your dollar has to be El Puerco Laron on the pike place stair climb-cheap,wonderfully prepared mexican food(fresh made corn tortillas with every dish)and fantastic fresh salsa. I was in Seattle in June and missed my stop there and I deeply regret it-cant find good mexican in Sydney. But we did make it to the Crab Cooker down on the waterfront( my wife's favorite Seattle place) A bit more cash but well worth it-don't go past the seafood combinations that are put in the middle of the table covered in plastic-wack on a bib and grab a mallet-and enjoy the feast-fresh tasty and filling- one last one- we also liked Piroshki Piroshki in Pike place- a great taste selection there and not too pricey for the quality-

Clam Chowder Recipes/Advice?

Coming from the northwest,I have made a few pots of chowder in my time-the advice listed is pretty good, but I beleive you need to add the clams from the tins towards the end of the cooking process. They are already cooked and you will be overcooked if you put them in too early.I also worked at a restaurant that was well known for their chowder and their recipes had corn in it- it does go well with the rest of the ingredients- put it in! I miss chowder-it's hard to find in Australia, I have to make it when I feel the urge- good luck!!

Cook the Book: 'The Best Barbecue on Earth'

the best barbecue is at your own house-choose the best quality meats, the freshest seafood or the finest vegetables( I like mushrooms, asparagus, and zucchini on the barbecue), take care not to overcook or overseason it for your tastes, and serve it with side dishes that are equally as fresh.Come to my house and we will go to the Sydney fish markets and get some Balmain bugs and fresh prawns! And I disagree about grilling and barbecue- if you prepare a meal on a barbecue,it barbecue!!! No need to be snobbish- its just food
