Recipe for drinkable yogurt?
And the flavor combinations are endless. I made a raspberry peach smoothie yesterday and made a chocolate banana smoothie over the weekend. I use vanilla low-fat yogurt personally, and I find milk or juice optional, though your smoothie will be thicker with just yogurt and fruit.
When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?
I almost always love to share, and among some family and friends it's automatically assumed that sharing (or tasting) is acceptable. We can all try more (or new) food, and no one gets food envy!
Cook the Book: Easy Gluten-Free Baking
I can't possibly choose a favorite. My most recent obsession is blueberry cheesecake bars, from a recipe my mother found and makes better than I do.

Cook the Book: 'Canal House Cooking, Vol. 1'
My favorite is caprese salad with sweet, juicy corn on the cob. Nothing says summer better -- though a bowl of vanilla ice cream with blueberries or strawberries won't hurt, either.
Dinner Tonight: Chicken Adobo
This looks delicious! And anything with that much garlic must be... I can't wait to try it.
Threadless T-Shirt Giveaway: Lemon Aid
i like my lemonade with strawberries
Cook the Book: 'L.A.'s Original Farmers Market Cookbook'
As much as I love the produce and cheese vendors at a nearby farmers market in DC, I consistently turn to one stand for fresh pasta. Even though they also sell meat and eggs, my "pasta guy" also sells the best ravioli I've ever had, with combinations from the usual -- basil and ricotta, wild mushroom -- to the unusual -- bacon and sage. Yumm!
Who uses recipes and who is winging it?
When I cook for a group, I usually follow a recipe, if inexactly. But because I usually just cook for myself, I most often wing it. Like others, I'll get inspiration from recipes or from what's in the fridge. I print out plenty of recipes from various websites and cut them out from magazines, so I have quite the collection -- if only I could afford to throw more dinner parties to try them out!
Reluctant Indifference: Scones
Not your traditional scone, but I adore this 101 Cookbooks recipe: http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/raspberry-mega-scones-recipe.html
Cook the Book: 'Rustic Fruit Desserts'
any kind of crisp, but especially a mix of berries, served warm with vanilla ice cream
Healthy & Delicious: Avocado Chicken Salad
I made this yesterday for a work potluck lunch, and it was a big hit! I used leftover rotisserie chicken and subbed lemon juice for the lime juice based on personal preference and parsley and basil for the cilantro. Great combination of flavors. This would also be great for a picnic.
Looking for new hand mixer...
I'm happy with my Kitchen Aid five-speed hand mixer. I looked at a couple other brands, but Kitchen Aid came recommended and just seemed sturdier. I don't use it daily, so it doesn't exactly take a beating, but it's perfect for my small kitchen and occasional needs. I think I paid $40-$50 for it, either at Bed Bath & Beyond or Kohl's.
Brunch in DC - best options for outdoor eating?
The Tabard Inn Restaurant has outdoor seating. I haven't eaten on their patio yet but I'm a big fan of their brunch -- I recommend their savory tart, which changes seasonally.

Cook the Book: 'Kneadlessly Simple'
I made rosemary rolls once for a school project. I haven't baked my own bread since, though I've long wanted to.
Cook the Book: The Essence of Chocolate
The only souffle I've ever had -- at a French restaurant, naturally -- was a chocolate souffle, and it was fabulous. I've cut out recipes for dessert souffles since then but have never tried to make them.
Cook the Book: 'Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics'
For dessert, my go-to recipe is fudgy brownies. I also make a super-easy peanut butter fudge that's a big hit around the holidays.
Good eats in Akron, Ohio?
Thanks so much, everyone! It looks like I'll have a hard time choosing places for the weekend!
Cook the Book: 'The Cook's Country Cookbook'
Brownies -- fudgy ones, the best kind. Chocolate is always a hit!
Eating with braces
I've had braces twice and didn't change my diet much, except for switching to sugar-free gum and chewing longer after they tightened things up in my mouth. Also, no Tootsie Rolls! Trust me on this one...
Have you used recipes on food packages?
Some years ago Quaker Oats had a recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip bars on the inside of the lid. My grandma cut it out, but I loved them so much I soon started making them myself. I brought them into the office one day when I worked at a newspaper, and the food editor couldn't stop raving about them - and she wasn't big on sweets. She couldn't believe the source of the recipe.
Cook the Book: 'Sweety Pies'
Apple pie - I didn't think I liked pie until my junior year of high school, when a teacher brought in his much-talked-about homemade apple pie with crumb topping. I've never looked back, but I do always make my apple pie with a crumb topping now!
Bourbon-Vanilla Ice Cream
I want an ice cream maker now more than ever...
The Next Food Network Star - are we watching?
It can't compete with Top Chef for me!

Jose Andres: Thanks to you, DC loves tapas. What's the next big trend in dining? And are you already planning another restaurant to showcase it?
Bewitching in the kitchen! What's for dinner 10/27, Tuesday?
We had roast tomato and mozzarella ravioli with a tomato, mushroom and mascarpone sauce with, along with fresh baguette and a simple spinach salad with a mustard dressing. If the daughter cleans her plate, I know I've done well.

Bewitching in the kitchen! What's for dinner 10/27, Tuesday?
@hmw haha! I taught my husband to use shredded cabbage for tempura. My mother would make that up when there was leftover tempura batter after making ebi tempura. Yep, he cooks dinner 99% of the time.

Glad to be part of the unintentional Mexican fiesta going on here today! We had Enchilada Casserole (chicken, refried beans, corn, red enchilada sauce, layered between flour tortillas) with (don't judge me) tater tots.

Sukiyaki! Lots of good beef, grilled tofu and mushrooms galore.

Am way behind on CSA vegetables. Braised beef with turnips and carrots / mashed potatoes & celery root / sauteed greens with onions and feta.
Bewitching in the kitchen! What's for dinner 10/27, Tuesday?
Sliced avocado, pico de gallo, sour cream, and cheese on warmed flour tortillas. We call them avocado tacos and usually eat them on Fridays during Lent. Good stuff.

No swiners here yet, but I was diagnosed with a nasty case of bronchitis that has taken hold from being down with a nasty cold the past 2 1/2 weeks. So, it's paninis and coleslaw for the guys. And for me it's many cups of Lipton chicken noodle cup of soup (hangs head in shame) and hot lemonade with honey. There's something about the Lipton crap--perhaps the saltiness, so I can taste something and perhaps that it doesn't fill you up, so I can have a few hot cups of it throughout the evening and not feel bloated.

Seared scallops, roasted corn pudding in acorn squash (haven't made it before, hopefully it will be good), and a green salad.

@Cassaendra- you definitely eat more Japanese food than I do! lol
is that all your hubby's cooking? cabbage tempura is kinda innovative :-)
Bewitching in the kitchen! What's for dinner 10/27, Tuesday?
Penne with cauliflower, saffron, and pine nuts. Cauliflower made its first appearance at my farmers market on Saturday and nothing is better than this vegetable when at its freshest. I bought this huge head so might only use half for the pasta dish and then make oven roasted cauliflower later this week with apples and dill.
Bewitching in the kitchen! What's for dinner 10/27, Tuesday?
It's clean out the fridge time---leftover pork roast with sauerkraut---just finished up the leftover salad and roasted red pepper & tomato soup for lunch....

Healthy & Delicious: Avocado Chicken Salad
This is quite the thread here.
But to bring it back to the topic of food (and not Nike), I thought I would suggest a nice site for other chicken recipes, and that is Just Bare Chicken.
When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?
I'm a sharer. With family and some friends I will share any of mine and try any of theirs, often finishing the left over bits or cleaning up other peoples plates. Sometimes I steal food from others without asking, but knowing that those people won't mind. Sharing goes beyond food, and extends to utensils in my family, I know its not for everyone, but it works out great for us.
When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?
If I'm eating with friends or my boyfriend (which is almost always who I'm eating with when I'm out), then I'll offer a taste of whatever I'm eating, ESPECIALLY if I like it. Share the wealth! I have like-minded friends, so they usually offer back - if they don't, I don't even usually notice. I may ask for a small taste if it's something I really want to try, but I'm not militantly pro- or anti-sharing.
When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?
sharing does not bother me at all...just DON"T eat from my personal dish in front of me...or try to feed me off your fork/chopsticks..I will leave !!!
When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?
One of my favorite "shared" meals was at NOPA in SF. All three of us agreed upon three dishes...we would eat and then say switch and we would move the plate to the next person...probably not for everyone but so good for us!!! I love eating with good friends.
When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?
It seems unnatural for me not to share, but then I grew up in a family where sharing food was the norm. It was very weird one time when I went out with a group of friends to a place I knew had mediocre big portions (I was outvoted on where to go) and asked if anyone wanted to split a dish with me and they all looked at me like I was insane. I shut-up and at the end no one finished their meal.
There are some unspoken rules to polite sharing though. If you ask, make sure you have something to give back. My mom is the queen of breaking this rule, she'll always be like I'm not that hungry I'll just have a bite of yours and of course half the time she's paying so it's not like anyone can say no. It was especially obnoxious when we were in Italy where you're trying to taste as much of everything in the short amount of time you have. I think this stems from when my sister and I were kids and would never finish our meals, but we're not kids anymore.
Another is don't force anyone to order what you want just to share. My littlest sister is famous for doing this and she gets away with it because stepmom wants her to eat. I was amazed at how she dictated what my stepmom and dad would eat and when she turned to me I was just like uh uh I know what I'm getting.
Ask ask ask is the third. There are certain occasions where you don't have to (my sister and I never do when we go out to eat together, but we've been doing that a long time) but always err on the side of asking. It's just good to be polite.
Different occasions call for different types of sharing. Now that I've moved I've got to find new dining companions who like to share.
