can't speak of other items but the gateau battu was disappointing. fairly dry and also not delivering enough flavor. maybe that's how it is supposed to taste but def not worth forking over $4.75 for a dry slice of butter toast. they also charge $1.5 for butter and jam each, outright ripoff in my opinion

unfortunately my single experience there did not live up to your euphoric review. I got a Gateau Basque which you raved about in an earlier reivew and it was quite disappointing. Even though it was shorly after they opened in the morning, the pastry tasted refrigerated for a long while and i suspected it was from the day before. Moreover, the custard was too sweet and gummy and didn't display any of the citrus note you wrote about.
I fear these days SE critics are getting specially pampered up by more and more restauranteurs.
