Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

Slices of turkey meat, topped with red onion and bbq sauce, rolled into a tube. :)

A Catherine Zeta-Jones-Like Eggplant Burlesque at Taxim in Chicago

From what I remember, melitzanosalata is actually different than baba ghanoush in that it *doesn't* have tahini, but rather olive oil and sometimes vinegar, tomatoes, etc.

Cook the Book: '660 Curries' by Raghavan Iyer

First experience was when I moved to Seattle -- place called India Bistro; fell in love with Saag, got a huge stomach ache, finally realized it was the location and not the cuisine.

Dinner Tonight: Italian Sausage and Spinach Pasta

We did a healthier version (kale, chicken sausage, and no half-and-half) here: Fettuccine with Spicy Chicken Sausage, Kale, and Tomatoes. Still just as hearty!

I love adding spicy sausage to puttanesca. :)

We just made a vegan moussaka and didn't miss the meat at all!

The Worst Seafood Display Ever? Or the Most Brilliant? You Decide

I can relate to paulraphael - I'm a working chef, New York foodie, and worked in gourmet food stores for seven years. The quality of the fish that is available in the wholesale markets is dismal, and by the time it gets to the retailer it is too old to sell. It comes from all over the world, is caught by questionable methods, or farm-raised under often questionable conditions. I don't eat much fish these days unless i catch it.

I like quesadillas when I'm alone. I'll add a little shredded chicken breast, salsa and cheese.

Miscellaneous egg dishes, which can be adjusted depending on how hungry you are (e.g., scrabled eggs, eggs over easy, egg salad, etc.)

Scrambled egg on a bowl of miso soup drizzled with hot sesame oil. At other times: hot dogs, mustard and deli dills with a glass of wine.

Salad sandwiches. Really, really big ones, with all the different salads that I normally feel guilty about taking so long to prepare. God they are good!

I like nilla wafers in French onion dip. I also like maple syrup in beef stew but once that's in it's not as obvious as the cookies in dip.

When I eat alone I usually make toast and add tuna with a slice of tomato and then melt cheese on top. Yum

I add cheese to everything and tend to ignore signs that food has gone bad like mold... blame the economy! I'm a poor recent college graduate :)

From Serious Eats

Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

I usually make myself a big salad with nuts and berries in it!

From Serious Eats

Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

When I eat alone, the treat is really in not having to choose something to make and not having to cook anything. So I snack on crackers, bagels, cherry tomatoes, toast with butter and jam and especially fresh popcorn.

From Serious Eats

Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

I usually boil some pasta and top it off with an easy homemade sauce consisting of tomatoes, olive oil, basil, and garlic. A little cheese on top is nice, too. kneecree at gmail dot com
