Eat for Eight Bucks: Pasta with Brown Butter and Sage

This is boring, so I have some suggestions: Melt some butter in the empty pan you used to cook the pasta in (switch to angel hair), press a garlic clove into the butter; add sliced mushrooms and some green onions (or white), and grind some pepper in. You can also add all those ingredients to a frying pan and saute them or just carmelize the mush/onion mix. When the sauce is ready, add it to the pasta w/a tbl. of olive oil to relieve stickiness. Salt to taste and add some grated cheese, your choice, to the top...and voila. Easy, inexpensive, and MUCH tastier.

Standing Room Only: That's-A-Burger

I don't know about Chicago, but come to Baltimore and eat the best burgers at Burger Bros in Towson, just north of Baltimore. I've had a lot of burgers, but these are wonderful.

Pumpkin Pie Alternatives for Thanksgiving

How about cheesecake? Everyone loves it, and there are 500 ways to make it. I made a strawberry cheesecake yesterday for Hunter's Thanksgiving, and it's all gone.

Five Guys. Not so much.

I've been to 5 Guys in PA and MD, and I wasn't overly impressed. Better than fast food ANY DAY, but I don't like the fries either. I did find one place in MD that serves the best burgers and condiments I've ever had, Burger Bros. in Towson, MD. Their baconcheeseburger is big, very juicy, and perfectly cooked. I top mine with mayo, sauteed mushrooms, raw onions and feta cheese, and it's to die for! They also have chicken sandwiches, onion rings, salads, and a nice selection of sodas. Next time you're in Baltimore, look them up. It's worth the trip.

Best Steamed Crabs in Baltimore?

As a local, I'm attaching a link for you to access to the "best" crabhouses in Baltimore, since there are a LOT of good crabs in Baltimore. Hope it helps. And if you really like crabs, have some crabcakes and buy some Old Bay to take home with you. Then you can keep the good taste of Balto. with you all the time!

Cook the Book: 'Urban Italian'

Rotini with sliced mushrooms and onions, lightly sauteed in olive oil, mixed with parmesan and a blend of other Italian cheeses, ground black pepper and pesto. My family loves it, and it's so easy to make. When I have it, I throw some sausage in there too, summer sausage actually works great.

A New Look at Old Bay with Classic Shrimp Scampi

Yes, I'm from MD, and Old Bay is the best! I use it in our omelets, on our fries, on corn on the cob, in chicken divan...and of course, in any type of seafood. Our crabcakes are the best because of the Old Bay. I wouldn't eat one anywhere else anymore because that's the missing ingredient.
