Sunday Brunch: Pumpkin Tea Cake

This took forever to bake, but it was so worth it. My coworker who normally only eats an orange for lunch had 2 slices of this bread and declared it "heavenly."

dmcavanagh, fish sauce is not something to :( at! It is an amazing flavor to play around with. If you eat Thai or Vietnamese food, you've already had it.

New Dumpling place in NYC's Chinatown?

My coworkers and I tried it twice. The first time was fine--nothing stood out, but for a quick snack it sufficed. When I went back again I was let down. Half the order was cold and greasy, and the dough was far too thick for my tastes.

I do see most of the Chinese customers ordering soups, so maybe that is the way to go.

My coworkers all prefer to fight the crowds at Vanessa's Dumplings.

Sweet Ticket Giveaway, Week 2: What's Your Favorite Childhood Dessert Memory?

My dad favored having a "treat" each evening, a couple hours after dinner. Sometimes fruit, sometimes cookies or pudding, whatever was on hand. The best nights were when mom had recently gone to the store and picked up sundae fixings. Vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce, a rainbow of sprinkles, and real whipped cream were an indulgence even back when I was young enough to not know what a calorie was.
