Cleaning wine glasses- use soap or not...
I'm surprised that everyone uses soap, I've tastings I've heard folks claim that soap can leave a residue that effects the wine flavors.
@jenilowrance- I assume the vinegar solution helps sheet the water off preventing spots but what about vinegar smell or taste?
One must do meal in NYC
This isn't quite what you wanted but your post got me thinking...I'm based on the west coast but my company HQ is on Broadway across from Madison Sq. Park, I dream about a shake from the Shake Shack and a slice of Sicilian from Bravo pizza...nothing like it in So Cal

Leftover tacos reincarnate as...?
Jeez, I never heard of left over tacos...what you have are ones that just haven't been eaten yet.
Sorry I live in SoCal, we just keep eatin' the tacos.
You can make breakfast with them too, mix in some eggs.
How about Chiliquilies?

PerkyMac- you've given me an idea for a new social media site, Ketch-A-Buzz.com!
Migraine Foods - Triggers/"Cures"
A related thread you might be interesting in- http://www.seriouseats.com/talk/2008/10/red-wine-headache-sulfites-histamines-or.html
Many of the sufferers complain of wine as a migraine trigger.
Red Wine Headache- sulfites, histamines or ??
I'm interested in wine and I'm interested in science. Before researching this I knew sulfites were in many foods we eat daily, and it seemed like I was hearing a lot of folks complain about headaches from the "sulfites" in red wine but not from other foods. I just logically doubted sulfites as the cause and began doing some reading. For folks that suffer from wine related headaches this topic and information is very interesting. And they are concerned with what causes the problem so they can address avoiding it in other foods and possibly find a remedy.
izatryt- It seems the that some folks claim to drink some wine with no problems but other wines cause symptoms in very small quantities. For some it can happen with less than one glass.
lemons- Thanks for the response. When you say from the standpoint of "most of us" who are you referring to? Are you an RWH sufferer?
Cognac and the classic cocktail- The Sidecar
You know I don't think I've ever had Tuaca. It's described as citrus and vanilla flavors on the website. How would you describe it? Is it just for mixing or can you sip it straight?
Cleaning wine glasses- use soap or not...
I am a wash by hand with soap and hotwater then rinse well with very hot water and immediately dry with a "clean" "dry" terrycloth bar towel. My first resturant job was as a scullion (that's what a dishwasher was called back in ancient times working in the scullery that's how old I am) and all glassware was hand-dried to get rid of any waterspots and I mean all glassware each and every piece, the water in the industrial dishwashers got so hot that the steam would scald you if you were too close. So now I only drink my wine and sparkling wine from a highball style glass my fav is a plain short wide vertical sided, they are easy to clean and dry too!

You can make taco salad- just crunch up some tortilla chips, add leftover taco meat, shredded lettuce (or salad greens- which I happen to prefer), cheese, salsa, sour cream, and whatever other taco fixings you have leftover. It's basically tacos with a fork. It's great to eat at work the next day when you don't want to look like a mess in front of your co-workers...just pack it up in a tupperware bowl to go.

You could buy a pizza crust and make mexican pizza - salsa, beans, meat and cheese, bake and topp w/ guac, sour cream, lettuce tomatoes and crumbled chips.
Stuffed tomatoes or pepper - use rice, salsa, meat and top w/ melted cheese.
mexican fritatta.
Leftover tacos reincarnate as...?
you can definitely make enchiladas, burritos or tortilla soup... i love the mexican lasagna/casserole idea too. I also make these tortilla/tostada stacks... you might like them.
If you want to steer away from the Mexican theme - you could steer into the Caribbean, go Puerto Rican and use the veggie "meat" with macaroni or serve the soy crumbles over rice with nice sweet plantains on the side. Or even use it for a veggie lasagna.
If you have flour tortillas, bake them or fry them and sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top for delicious crispas.

Around here, tacos are often what leftovers turn into.

when i was in grade school i used to take cold tacos for lunch.
Leftover tacos reincarnate as...?
What are these mythical "leftover tacos" of which you speak???
Leftover tacos reincarnate as...?
Tex Mex favorite is Migas - scrambled eggs with all the ingredients you've got (Including the taco shells) ! Google them, you'll find plenty of recipes. It's a breakfast delicacy.
Cleaning wine glasses- use soap or not...
I purchased some Riedels several years ago and I seem to recall reading that their recommendation was to handwash with warm water only and detergent was not recommended. I use a little soap, plenty of warm water, rinse, rinse, drain, and polish dry...can't stand water spots...too many years in the restaurant business. I have a friend who is very serious about wine and he does not ever use soap on his wine glasses. Something about crystal structure trapping soap residue...anyone know if that is true or myth?
Also, the thought of tossing anything hard like ice into my nice wine glasses or decanters makes me cringe. Not just the worry of breakage, but eventual etching. Same with the dishwasher...ever seen an etched water glass? Not pretty.
Of course in restaurant settings, city health codes demand all glassware, utensils, etc. must be washed with detergent, rinsed, and sanitized either by virtue of chemicals or heat...usually chemicals...I would think the problem with soap residue would be more of an issue with machine washed glasses. I recall a period of time when some restaurants would go through an elaborate ritual of "priming" a glass with a small amount of wine, discard, and then pour wine into the now primed glass, but I haven't heard much about it lately...perhaps abandoned as a waste of wine?

Taco salad, mexican "lasagna", taco bean soup... or just make and freeze burritos. A basic burrito freezes pretty well.

I was going to suggest chilaquiles as well. (pronounced chee-la-KEY-lays if you care).
A little more authentic kind of mexican lasagna, or a tortilla casserole that is sublime. Recipes abound but here's the instruction portion of a version from a friend of mine from Mexico:
1 - A layer of tortilla chips
2 - A layer of sauce.
3 - Sour cream
4 - Repeat as desired
5 -Cheese and cilantro on top
Serve with refried beans
So good. You can have them "wet" or "dry" depending on how much sauce you add. You can do enchilada sauce, or just salsa, or even chicken broth and roasted tomatillos or similar. The ratio of how much sauce to chips/meat etc you use, and how long you cook it are a matter of preference. Good luck!

I say soup or a hodge podge chili. If you have any teen age boys around you could let them polish off the leftovers in exchange for doing some yard work for you!
Leftover tacos reincarnate as...?
A taco salad or nachos would be simple and delicious.

@uselesscamper - As long as the crystal is air-dried properly, there's no smell at all (and no water spots!). I used this trick several times when working large dinner parties, and there weren't any complaints from clients or guests.

Cookshop is a great brunch. They have my favorite huevos rancheros in the city, and their baked french toast is something I crave(they have it on saturdays only). It's got a lovely sunny and modern atmosphere that's very pleasant. It's my consistent favorite at the moment. You should get a reservation.
Public is also very good. They have great food, very cool decor, and a solid drink list: http://www.public-nyc.com/drinks_lp.html It's also best if you have a res.
Freeman's is also a great brunch spot. Very solid food (they have my favorite artichoke dip ever) and great fun/freaky hunting lodge-esque decor, and they have an excellent drink list: http://www.menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp?areaid=0&restaurantid=6015&neighborhoodid=0&cuisineid=0 You can't make a reservation, so you'll have to wait if you don't go early enough.

I love cocktails but not usually first thing in the morning but I'm guessing places with more creative cocktails might have more lunch-ish fare on the menu.
For some more interesting options, and great food, Clinton Street Baking Company is a great choice (menu is on menupages.com).
Devin Tavern, as I mentioned previously, has some nice non-bloody mary choices:
http://www.devintavern.com/menus/brunch
Cookshop also has an interesting list:
http://www.cookshopny.com/200_menus/205_wine_glass_cocktail.htm
Jane's sister restaurants, The Neptune Room, and The Smith, may also be worth a look (also on menupages.com). The Smith has a long cocktail list with a handful of classics appearing.

Egg in Williamsburg (N 5th between Bedford and Berry) has really terrific food but the service isn't great...but they're always packed despite this, which is a testament to how excellent their brunches are. Unfortunately, no cocktails at Egg. And it's a bit of a cliché at this point, but Clinton St. Baking Co. on the LES does do one of the city's best brunches (and there are always long lines).

A good bloody is always welcome, but i was thinking something a little more inspired with infused liquors. Jane, for instance, had a great cocktail with sauvignon blanc, gin, fresh thyme, tarragon, and lime juice. per se is definitely a great suggestion to look into, thanks for that. in terms of brunch atmosphere, something comfy, not too chic, and big portions. basically, the perfect place to nurse a hangover with a little hair of the dog. I am recently out of college after all.

> Most places don't have a liquor license, so I assume you mean a bloody mary or mimosa
By which I meant, "Some places don't have a liquor license, surprisingly. What are you looking for in a brunch cocktail? I assume you mean a bloody mary or mimosa."
One must do meal in NYC
Per Se serves its regular tasting menu at lunch. That's probably your best bet since you'll be here for a long weekend, and many places don't offer weekend lunch service. A 5-6 course tasting menu, even if pared back from dinner, also includes amuses and palate cleansers, and petit fours, so I wouldn't discount the extravagance. Although not much is on par with Momofuku Ko at lunch.
Best cocktails for brunch? Most places don't have a liquor license, so I assume you mean a bloody mary or mimosa? Best bloody is at Devin Tavern, they squeeze their tomato juice fresh, and also grate fresh horseradish. For a more nouveau, quirky take on blood marys, try Prune. They have a long list of variations and give you a small beer chaser. For great brunch food and great brunch atmosphere, I'm not sure what you are looking for.

Crikey, I consume 85 servings in a couple of weeks!!
Migraine Foods - Triggers/"Cures"
I've had them for decades, they always start w/ blind spots followed by a swirling prism -like aura and numbness in my fingers. I'm lucky I don't get them very often but when I do they knock me out of commission. I've never really been able to figure out the cause. I even gave up coffee for 4 sad years - it didn't make a noticable difference in the frequency of my migaines though. The one pattern I think I've figured out is dehydration, especially first thing in the morning. So now I make sure I have a glass of water before my morning coffee and I at the suggestion of my doctor I take B vitamins.
Migraine Foods - Triggers/"Cures"
My migraine triggers are hormones, red wine, dehydration and lack of sleep. I have to make sure that every day I get enough water, or the next day I'll have a killer migraine. And if I take an Imitrex when I first feel it coming on, that will get rid of it. But if I am pig-headed and keep telling myself that it isn't really a migraine, nothing gets rid of it except lots of time and sleep.
