Washington Heights, You've Got Good Pizza Now: Antika Family Style Pizzeria

I walked by a yet to be opened Antika in Astoria the other day and the lettering looks the same (for photo: http://www.foodistanyc.com/2011/05/antika-pizza-pasta-is-coming-to-30th.html). I'd wager it's the same ownership.

Daily Slice: New Park Pizza

If you're in this mindset, you should check out Freddy's in Whitestone. It's only a 15 minute ride from Astoria and though it lost a little bit of character/charm when they renovated the interior, it still serves very solid NYC slices. The Sicilian crust--studded with sesame seeds--generally has a fairly nice, open crumb and the flavor of something that has fermented for a reasonably long time. Worth a look if you're in Queens and have a car.

Astoria: Best Yet Market, an Awesome, Awesome Grocery Store

Outside of the noteworthy beer selection, anyone that lives nearby should take note that they sell some of the best bread in Queens. Far, far better than the bland loaves sold at all of the local Italian bakeries.

How Do You Eat with a Beard?

Three things I've found helpful:
1. Keep your moustache neatly trimmed just above your upper lip.
2. Start using your napkin more frequently and more vigorously than you have in the past.
3. When eating something sticky, use whatever you're drinking with it to clandestinely lubricate said moustache and then use your napkin to wipe it down.

Dear AHT: Great Burger at Zum Stammtisch in Queens

They do serve them on English muffins. I've never had one, though they look decent enough. The one friend I have who has ordered their burger in the past has since been so ridiculed for the lack of adventure in his choice that I'd have a hard time getting the words out to the waitress if I wanted one.
