Sunday Brunch: Eggs in Purgatory

This sounds delish! I'm always looking for a different breakfast treat. I'll be trying this.

I saw them too. I need a new 10" skillet and I'm tempted to try one...If you give it a whirl let us know. I just read in David Lebovitz's blog that he like his All-Clad cookware. Pretty pricey but guaranteed forever. After spending over $100 for two large skillets in the past three years I'm tempted to try the All-Clad.

Fast Food Extensions

During a road trip, the Husband and I stopped one day in a small Missouri town for gas and something to eat. They had a Dunkin' Donuts next to the gas station. We had a breakfast sandwich instead of their traditional donuts and believe it or not, it was probably the best fast-food breakfast sandwich I've ever had - go figure. I do agree with the DQ comment - I had a burger there once that was with me for what seemed like several days - stick with the ice cream...

I am thinking about purchasing the Food Network 11pc Potbelly Stainless Cookware set from Kohl's. I like the price on this set a lot better than the price on the tri-ply. I also have always loved the "potbelly" look. I haven't found any reviews on this particular set and am wondering what the verdict is. I am getting married soon and will be doing basic, everyday cooking...nothing gourmet so I don't know how important it is to spend a ton of money on cookware. I feel that this set is a good price, nice looking and versatile. Has anyone used this set? Do the handles get hot? Do they wash up nicely? Please help me with some reviews! :)

The Food Network Cookware sets are fantastic. I've been using mine for almost a year now and haven't had any issues. The set is perfect for what I like to cook and I love the glass lids. This set also has a lifetime warrenty. Way to go Food Network! The best thing is the price. All Clad would have cost me twice as much as the Food Network 10 pcs. set. Cooking at home shouldn't be so cost prohibitive!

OMG, I've been eating this my whole life! I know some who detest it because it was "force fed" to them as kids. Tomato sauce, eggs, a piece of crusty bread - what more could anyone want??!!

I second Jaden's Steamy Kitchen, she's a lovely, erudite (and prolific) blogger who's site is a wonderful resource with great photography to match.

Also, MattBites for style and substance.

I also second Delicious Days == The Godfather of food blogs. Like MattBites, the design and photography are stunning.

I take a peek at SE most days because it's active with good topics. But one of my other faves is Zagat -- not technically a "food" site but still, all about food! The discussion boards over there can be quite amusing.

I frequently visit the Taunton board for Fine Cooking Magazine. Love Cassandra Crossing - a site born out of the implosion of the TVFN boards.

Spare no expense on spatulas! True, it's a small item that rarely costs more than $10, but I've found that you really get what you pay for with the cheaper plastic-handled versions -- I've broken or melted too many to count. I have a wood-handle silicon spatula that I use every day and it's never let me down.

I have a modern mixer w/ a bundle of assories that does everything. But I will never give up my old KitchenAid mixer. I purchased it for my mother 50 years ago--- yes you read right-- 50 years ago! When she passed away, I had it back--still in great shape !

I also treasure my two well seasoned well guarded cast iron skillets; I'm always in the market fo more cast iron ware (used of course). I've had much more but some foodie-ass cook(s) manage to abscound with my treasures.Oh well, "Dems da Breaks in dis busness"

If you're smart about it, you can find a lot of good deals for the items mentioned above online. I've even gone to restaurant warehouses and been amazed at the stuff you can get for a song -- and a bad song, at that!

That being said, I'd pay anything for a good espresso machine. I use a FrancisFrancis! X5 and love it. It retails for $600-700, but paid for itself in months as I virtually stopped going to Starbucks. The trick is to learn how to use it properly or you might be disappointed (I was at first). I taught myself by reading some of the articles on CoffeeGeek.

Here you go, hotsaucedaily (I shared it on the low-carb thread so I'm copy-pasting it here for you). -Love your nickname btw! :D

Oh! And a great 'fish' topper for your grilled/seared fish of choice is my Lime & dill tartar sauce:

Light mayo
Light sour cream
Fresh or dry dill (to taste)
2 limes juiced w/ zest Sugar OR Splenda (to taste)
Kosher salt
Diced sweet onion (adds a nice crunch and flavor)
Green Tobasco sauce (to taste)

If you don't like Green Tobasco sauce (*gulp*) you can substitute horseradish...or keep it without either but I like a bit of a 'kick' and the green tobasco really makes that sauce stand up and sing.

Then...just mix and serve next to or on top of your fishies! =0)

Teachertalk, that's an excellent suggestion! It would be so nice to just have a special spot here to share/exchange recipes, tips, hints...maybe have it categorized i.e. breads, soups, veges, salads, sauces etc. etc. That would really make sense! I love the idea of heirloom recipes especially...there are so many 'home-cook' recipes passed down through generations that are absolutely priceless and would be so nice to keep 'alive' on the internet for others to love and enjoy and pass down as well. :)
