Serious Deal: Convivio

Convivio is without a doubt one of the best bargains in the city, if you're considering bang for buck rather than bottom line. The wine list is also fantastic, although it can jack your price up considerably if you're not careful. On occasion we have really splurged, but we usually just ask for a moderately priced recommendation, and have never been disappointed. This is an exceptional restaurant. I've had nearly all the dishes mentioned in this review - everything is really, really good, the fusilli is fabulous, and the affogato divine.

Seriously Italian: Reflections on the Trattoria

My husband and I went to La Cabana last week while in Rome (based on Gina's recommendation), and I cannot tell you how good it was. Swordfish carpaccio sliced so thin, with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Extraordinary - I'll be doing this at my Massachusetts beach house this summer, where the fish is really fresh. Pasta allo scoglio recommended by the waiter. Fish with roasted potatoes. Antipasti to die for. I'm getting hungry.
"Our" Roman trattoria for the last 8 years has been La Vecchia Roma on the Piazza Campitelli across from the Capitoline Museum, and we also had a great meal there - the gnocchi with cherry tomatoes are to die for and the little carciofi alla giudea are exceptional. But finding La Cabana means I'll have to plan at least two nights in Rome every time I go.
