Weekend Cooking Accomplishments?.............Vol.2

I'm trying tangy beef brisket, a recipe from Smitten Kitchen. It's a slow cooker to fridge to oven technique, so I'm going to try the finished result tonight with polenta and green beans. Hope it works out!

I really appreciate these How-To slide shows! Great tip about letting the meat coated with breadcrumbs rest for 30 minutes. I always have trouble keeping the breading together during the frying process.

@AyeEat - I prefer soda in a glass with ice too. And a straw. There's something about the carbonation, so drinking straight out of the bottle and can just doesn't do it for me!

Just tried Ina Garten's Peanut Swirl Brownie recipe for a holiday party, and they turned out moist and fudgy. Like nearly all baked goods, the trick for brownies is not to overbake.

Onion chopper recommendations?

I agree with the previous comments about getting a good knife - that way you'll end up with clean slices, rather than onion mush. It's an investment, but you'll enjoy cooking even more. Just got the Wusthof brand and love it.

Making a green bean casserole from scratch - homemade mushroom sauce, no cans!

Also made a pumpkin pie for the first time. Usually we just pick up one from the grocery store, but it was so much better this time around.

Freeze It!

chili stands up really well in the freezer. just store in plastic containers, and then defrost in the refrigerator before you're ready to eat!
