For one, I agree with his comment. Secondly, is it really that big of a deal to say someone's food sucks. I'm sure there are plenty of you who have left a friend's or restaurant thinking or even saying outloud, 'that sucked.'

Eric> While no one really says sudah makan, I think 'makan' has been incorporated into Singlish - makan can, go makan, makan makan, etc. I'd say it's slang since it's used by most Singaporeans no matter the race/dialect.
While we're on slang, Chris, don't forget 'chope' -- meaning what you do with those tissue packets to reserve a seat.
